The Edmonton Oilers have confirmed an earlier report from Sportsnet, that there will be no Young Stars Tournament this September in Penticton, BC. The tournament has become an annual event showcasing the best up-and-coming prospects from various NHL teams, including Edmonton, Vancouver, Calgary and Winnipeg.
In the past two years the tournament has featured Oilers stars Taylor Hall, Jordan Eberle, Magnus Paajarvi and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. It was designed by the teams involved to be a more competitive pre-training camp test ...

Oilers defenceman Ryan Whitney hopes his injury woes are behind him when he reports to Edmonton for training camp in the fall.
Whitney, 29, has played just 51 games since injuring his ankle in December of 2010. He says the after-effects of that injury, plus a knee problem suffered this past season, limited him when he did play.

If things had gone well for Taylor Fedun, he might currently be looking back on his rookie season with the Oilers. Instead, he's talking about the months he spent recovering from a broken leg. The Oilers have signed Oil Kings left-winger Kristians Pelss to a three-year entry level contract. Pelss, 19, is in his second season with the Oil Kings. He has 83 points in 126 regular season games.Pelss played for Latvia at the last two world junior tournaments. He was taken by the Oilers in the seventh round of the 2010 draft. (jrw)

Oilers forward Jordan Eberle is nominated for the Lady Byng Trophy. It's awarded to the player who shows sportsmanship while playing at a high level.
The other nominees are Florida defenceman Brian Campbell and Islanders forward Matt Moulson.

Oilers centre Ryan Nugent-Hopkins is nominated for the Calder Trophy as the top rookie in the NHL.He's up against New Jersey's Adam Henrique and Colorado's Gabriel Landeskog.Nugent-Hopkins and Landeskog led all rookies with 52 points, but Landeskog played all 82 games while Nugent-Hopkins played in only 62.The NHL awards will be handed out June 20 in Las Vegas. Goaltender Tyler Bunz has been signed to an Amateur Tryout by the Oklahoma City Barons of the American Hockey League.Bunz, who was drafted by Edmonton in the fifth-round of the 2010 NHL draft, signed a three-year entry level deal with the Oilers in March.
